These basic foundation definitions and guidelines are the result of extensive research and colaboration between soils & structural engineers, contractors and building code officials.  I chaired the executive committee and authored the document.  The standards that resulted have been adopted as Minimum Building Foundation Standards for the City of Wichita and Surrounding Areas.  I believe this document to be an excellant reference and design guide, providing a fundamental  understanding of foundation types and the soil, moisture and thermal dynamics that impact their performance.
